Allison Harris is a Kansas City-based writer from Omaha, Nebraska. They are a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Journalism and Mass Media.
Currently, they are the Social Media / Newsletter Producer for KCUR, Kansas City’s NPR station. Allison is also an editor at Ringtone Mag, an online DIY music publication, and a freelance writer available for commission. They were the managing editor and the editor for the Arts and Entertainment section of Roo News (UMKC’s paper) from Fall 2021 to Spring 2022.
Allison was a Fall 2020 editorial intern with Kansa City’s alt monthy, The Pitch magazine, where they wrote 3 cover stories for the print edition of The Pitch. They have experience covering local news, arts and culture, politics, and social justice issues.
Allison has a passion for writing about music and specializes in writing about pop, alternative pop, and electronica, culminating in a breadth of knowledge about niche internet music genres and unique facets of music history.
They strive to create writing that sheds light on queer and transgender creatives. Allison lives in midtown KC with their partner and a kitty named Mariah.
