Allison Harris is a Kansas City-based writer and social media creative from Omaha, Nebraska. They are a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Journalism and Mass Media.
Currently, Allison is a Social Manager at BarkleyOKRP, on the digital and social-forward FUEL team. Allison ideates and schedules organic content on behalf of clients, collects user-generated content, and serves as a subject matter expert for the ever-changing landscape of social media.
Allison is also an editor at Ringtone Mag, an online DIY music publication, and a freelance writer available for commission.
Allison was the Social Media / Newsletter Producer for KCUR, Kansas City’s NPR station from December 2022 to May 2025. They were the managing editor and the editor for the Arts and Entertainment section of Roo News (UMKC’s paper) from Fall 2021 to Spring 2022.
Allison was a Fall 2020 editorial intern with Kansa City’s alt monthly, The Pitch magazine, where they wrote 3 cover stories for the print edition of The Pitch. They have experience covering local news, arts and culture, politics, and social justice issues.
Allison has a passion for writing about music and specializes in writing about pop, hip hop and electronic music, culminating in a breadth of knowledge about niche internet music genres and unique facets of music history.
They strive to create writing that sheds light on queer and transgender creatives. Allison lives in midtown KC with a kitty named Mariah.
